The 47th Annual Rooster Run/Walk, an annual event presented by Newtown Parks & Recreation, will return on Saturday, June 5.

This year’s event has a new 5K certified course, the option of a 10K route, and a 100-yard Little Chicks Dash for children ages 3-8.

The race will begin at 8 am.

Originally planned with groups of 45 people to start in 15-minute increments, the race will now begin for everyone at the top of the hour.

All participants will be required to wear a mask at the start of the race. Masks can be removed once running or walking is underway.

The cost is $30 per person for the 5K and 10K events for those who register before noon on Friday, June 4. Prices increase after that time.

The cost for the Little Chicks Dash is $10 per child, regardless of when they are registered.

All registration will close at 7:30 am the day of the race. Proceeds benefit the Newtown Scholarship Association.

The public should note that the trails within Fairfield Hills, which are part of the new course design, will have limited use until noon that day.

Visit newtown-ct.gov/parks-recreation for more information including the course maps.

Signs have been posted to alert non-participants that use of the trails — which will host the redesigned run/walk course — will be limited for approximately four hours on the morning of June 5. —Bee Photo, Hicks
