Police Continuing âClick-It Or Ticketâ Seatbelt Enforcement Project
Town police will be continuing their heightened enforcement of motorist seatbelt laws in the Click-It or Ticket enforcement project both day and night through June 6.
Recent observations by police indicated that approximately 92 percent of motorists driving in town were using seatbelts. Through the enforcement project, police will seek to increase the percentage of seatbelt compliance.
The fine for failure to wear a seatbelt recently increased from $37 to $92.
On Friday, May 28, police from Newtown, Redding, Brookfield, Ridgefield, and Bethel will spend five hours enforcing seatbelt laws in Newtown. Police from those five towns also are participating in enforcement projects in the other four towns.
The national Click-It or Ticket enforcement program is typically conducted during the Memorial Day and Thanksgiving holiday periods.
