Dog Owners Strut Their Mutts For Proposed Park

Members of the Newtown Parks and Recreation Department and supporters of the local Park & Bark public dog park project held the Strut Your Mutt Dog Walk at Fairfield Hills on Saturday.

More than 200 people and more than 100 dogs — a variety of breeds — came out to show their support and helped to raise more than $2,000 for the proposed dog park. Event contest winners were as follows:

Grand Prize: Large Basket drawing to Leah Nutchson and her dog, Mais, a wire fox terrier.

Barrel of Biscuits: Carol Kochiss with her dog, Nicky. The number of biscuits was 486 and she made the closest guess at 478.

Longest Tail was won by Tracy Hubbard and her Great Dane, Mya, with tail at 24 inches. Winner of a gift certificate from Swanky Franks.

Shortest Tail was won by Steve Benko and his dog, Dascha, a Rottweiler with tail measuring 5/8-inch. Winner of a gift certificate from Subway.

Best Dressed Dog was won by Julie Cander Kroef and her dog, Dot. Winner of two day pool/beach passes, compliments of Newtown Parks and Recreation.

Best Kisser was won by Donna Richards and her dog, Max. Winner of a gift certificate from the Ice Cream Shop.

Best Look Alike was Chloe Freedman and her dog, Shona. Winner of a gift certificate from Eureka Nail Salon.

Faster Eater was Eileen Swirsky and her dog, Ranger. Winner of a gift certificate from Carminuccio’s
