Occupation: Although I have a degree in psychology from Dalhousie University, Nova Scotia, Canada, Iâve had other unrelated careers. My first was as the producer and host of a Boston cable show called Total Health, which focused on mind, body, and spirit. I very much wanted to turn this into a national cable show. With that in mind, I moved from Boston in 1992 to Atlanta hoping that CNN might be interested. They werenât. So I turned the corner ten years ago and became a full-time residential interior designer. I now work for myself providing interior decorating services for clients here in Newtown. I love it. My company is Neci Marr Interiors at 203-809-4409.
How Long In Newtown: I was born in Canada and grew up in New Hampshire. I moved here nearly one year ago from Atlanta and live off Castle Hill Road.
Biggest Change You Have Seen In Town: In the short time Iâve been here, I guess it would be that new huge housing development off Toddy Hill Road. Itâs such a surprise. Thatâs the kind of thing they are doing all the time in Atlanta, tearing down forests so fast your head would spin. But there they bring in the full-scale landscaping right afterward. Thatâs whatâs so different. They didnât do that here.
Family: My daughter Jackie is 7 years old and a first grader at the Housatonic Valley Waldorf School in Newtown. Jackie and I are happy to be living close to our relatives, namelyâ¦my sister, Dr Beverly Marr, and her husband, Dr Chris Sova, who are chiropractors in Newtown. Their son Ted is 16. Bev is also the president of the Newtown Bridle Lands. My other sister, Shelly Harvey, lives in Monroe and is a public relations consultant. Her children are Nick, 16, and Maddy, 9.
Hobbies: I love the outdoors and spend lots of time outside ââ rain or shine, snow or fog ââ hiking and exploring. I also enjoy cooking, eating, music, and socializing with friends and family. I love to dance and have been going to Graceful Planet.
Pets: We have two adorable cats named Sam and Mittens. They moved all the way from Atlanta with us and that was a tough trip for them.
Favorite TV Show, Movie, Book: I rarely watch TV and never the news. Itâs very negative and based on fear. I also donât read newspapers. But I do read The Newtown Bee cover to cover every week. No kidding! I love the movies but rarely go. I spend lots of time reading. I loved The DaVinci Code. It was very exciting.
Organizations: I facilitate a weekly spiritual study group focused on A Course In Miracles. Itâs spiritual psychology, a self-study course. Absolutely fascinating, and itâs free. For more information, go to www.miraclecenter.org or call 426-6324.
I am also starting a bi-weekly Peace Circle in my home very soon. Peace Circles are happening in homes around the world. The purpose is to come together in small, intimate groups and to envision world peace. It was started by the Global Renaissance Alliance. We envision all political leaders coming together and peacefully resolving conflict. The collective power of minds coming together as one can move mountains, especially when guided by our Highest Good. For more information, log onto www.peacecircles.org.
Most Vivid Memory About Newtown: Three years ago I drove through Newtown and fell in love. Atlanta is very urban with no sense of community. Newtown is exactly the opposite. I am so grateful for the history and beauty of this town. And particularly grateful for those committed to preserving the natural environment. I plan to live here for many years.
Personal Philosophy: You get what you give every day.
