Kudos For The Police Academy

To the Editor:

The 2004 class of the Newtown Citizen’s Police Academy would like to express their sincere gratitude and admiration to the Newtown Police Department, particularly Sergeant Christopher Vanghele who coordinated the program, for all of their efforts with this year’s academy.

The academy, held over a ten-week period, allows citizens a chance to gain firsthand knowledge of a Newtown police officer’s duties. While many people may admire and respect officers, the reality is that some may have only negative experiences with them. This class not only allows you to see what the job of a police officer entails, but what a fine group of men and women they are as individuals…they truly are “Newtown’s Finest!”

On behalf of the 2004 class, I would like to thank the Board of Police Commissioners and Chief of Police Michael Kehoe for their support of the academy and its goal of educating the community about the department’s mission, operations, policies, and procedures.
