Newtown Youth Servicesâ second annual Hat City Blues benefit at the Fireside Inn May 22 was a great success, according to Hat City band members.
More than 60 people bought tickets at the door and nearly 100 people attended. The evening included plenty of dancing, refreshments provided by NYS, and a raffle organized by NYS Youth Advisory Board members Keegan Frobey, Stephanie Villa, Emily Weber, Allison Jagoe, and Samantha Villa.
Guest singer Anne Cote of co-sponsor Newtown Color Center brought down the house, according to band member David Lott, with a ârousing, full-throated rendition of âIt Hurts So Bad,ââ by Susan Tedeschi.
The number of sponsors for the event doubled, from 13 to 26 this year.
A total of $623 was raised at the Saturday night benefit. Over the past year, the Hay City Blues Band has raised $4,500 for Newtown Youth Services. The band is looking forward to building on that success at next yearâs third annual benefit.
