Hawk Laxmen Win Championship In Triple Overtime
Newtown High School's boys' lacrosse team came from behind and defeated Weston 5-4 in triple overtime of the South-West Conference Championship game, at Blue & Gold Stadium, on May 26.
Jared Pearson scored his third goal of the game eight seconds into the third overtime after the teams remained tied through a pair of four-minute OT periods. Layton Harrell tied the score late in regulation.
Third-seeded Weston led 2-0 after one quarter and 3-1 at halftime. Matt Meyers assisted Pearson's first goal, in the second quarter. The fourth-seeded Nighthawks trailed 4-3 heading to the fourth quarter as Meyers assisted Pearson and Scott Bauer in the third.
Mark Urso won most of his faceoffs to help Newtown gain possession. Pearson earned MVP honors, and Newtown and Notre Dame-Fairfield won the SWC's Sportsmanship Award.
