Volunteers Sought For Boards And Commissions
First Selectman Pat Llodra is continuing her appeal to residents who may have time or any personal expertise they can offer to the community through service on one of a number of local boards and commissions. Currently, vacancies exist on the following panels:
The Inland Wetlands Commission has an opening for a Democrat or unaffiliated voter. The Inland Wetlands Commission is authorized to administer the Inland Wetlands and Watercourses Regulations of the Town of Newtown and also to administer the Forest Practices Regulations.
The commission meets the second and fourth Wednesday of every month with the exception of November and December when they meet the second Wednesday only. The last day to submit a resume is June 13.
The Design Advisory Board has an opening for a Republican or unaffiliated voter. The Design Advisory Board is responsible for assisting property owners, design professionals, and others to understand the specific elements of site design and building appearances that are desired within the various design districts located in the Town of Newtown as designated by the Newtown Planning and Zoning Commission.
The Design Advisory Board recommends design guidelines to the PZC for each design district.
Newtownâs Economic Development Commission has an opening for an Republican or unaffiliated voter. Refer to www.newtown.org for more information on the commission. The last date to submit a resume is May 31.
The local Commission on Aging has two alternate positions open, one to any registered voter other than Republican and one to any registered voter.
The newly created Employee Benefits Oversight Committee offers two positions to Democrat, Independent, and unaffiliated voters. Interested parties can send a letter of interest and resume to the office of the first selectman. Knowledge of insurance or the benefit industry is preferable but not required.
