Music Group Took NMS Students On A ‘Musical Journey’

Newtown Middle School Assistant Principal Kathy Boettner introduced a PTA cultural arts event for students on Tuesday, May 24, thanking PTA member Andrea Spencer for bringing the Surcari presentation to the school.

Surcari is a performance group that plays traditional and original music from multiple areas, including South America and Spain. Members are Eugenio Huanca, Lorena Garay, and Tany Cruz.

“This is going to be a musical journey,” said Ms Garay, the musical director of the group, before performing the first song.

As the group performed, Ms Garay also explained different instruments and cultural aspects from the areas where each song originated.
