Margaret

Priscilla Carmody

Lifelong Resident

Of Sandy Hook And Newtown

Margaret Priscilla “Sally” Carmody, a lifelong resident of Newtown, died at her home, May 21, surrounded by family. She was born in Sandy Hook in 1924, and later lived on South Main Street by Hawley Pond, and finally on Queen Street. She was the daughter of Winifred (Osborne) and John Carmody.

When she was very young her father called her “Sally,” and this became the name she used with people who knew her well, throughout her life.

Ms Carmody worked throughout her career as a legal secretary and office administrator, first at attorney John Holian’s law office in Newtown, and later at the law office of Goldstein and Peck in Bridgeport. When she was working in Bridgeport she was an active supporter of the Daughters of St Paul, and enjoyed visiting and purchasing religious items at its store. She used to travel abroad with friends and at times with the Blue Army. Her trips included those to Lourdes, Fatima, Rome, China, and Ireland.

Ms Carmody was a devout, lifelong member of St Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Newtown.

She is survived by her sister-in-law, Teresa Carmody, and her brother-in-law, William Michael Kearns. She is also survived by 15 nieces and nephews, and by their children and grandchildren. She was the youngest of six children: two sisters, Alice Mead and Katherine Kearns, and three brothers, Fred, Jack, and Barton Carmody, all of whom predeceased her.

A Rosary was said at the Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown, May 25, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated in St Rose of Lima Church. Interment was at St Rose Cemetery, Cherry Street, Sandy Hook.

Memorial contributions may be made to Regional Hospice of Western Connecticut, 405 Main Street, Danbury CT 06810, or to St Rose of Lima Memorial Fund, 46 Church Hill Road, Newtown CT 06470.
