Senior Girls

Newtown Gold 13, Brookfield White 3 – Meg Kelly (3) Meghan Bridges (3), Betsy Vendel (2), Lisa Vendel, Jackie Isabella, Brittany Wiberg, Haley Keane and Nicole Waterhouse scored the goals to lead the Gold to the win. Hannah Glasrud, Molly Murtha, Annie Fletcher, Keegan Frobey and Steph Suhoza anchored the D.

Newtown Gold 8, Fairfield Wakeman 8 – Goalie Jackie Isabella made nine saves and led Newtown to victory over Wakeman. Molly Murtha, Hannah Glasrud, Annie Fletcher, Steph Suhoza, and Keegan Frobey led the defense again as Betsy Vendel (4 goals), Meghan Bridges (2) and Meg Kelly (2) powered the offense.

Senior Boys

Newtown White 13, Bethel 1 – Kurt Nacewicz and Andrew Golankiewicz scored two goals apiece and had one assist to lead the White. Kevin O’Connell, Cameron Gehrman, Jamie Bowers and Kevin Brown each had a goal and an assist. Dylan Heubner scored two goals and Jamie Walsh, Rob O’Donnell and Tyler Reszoly each scored a goal.

Newtown Gold 6, Amity 8A 5 – Christian Beitel scored on a Tim Wheeler assist with just under a minute to go in the first overtime period to beat Amity 8A. Beitel had two goals and an assist on the day. Wheeler also scored two goals as Andrew Hyland made 14 saves in the cage. Defensemen Zach Conger, John Grimaldi, John Aminti, Kyle McNamara and Chris Murphy anchored the D.

Newtown Blue 3, Stratford B 1 – Mike Hadgraft had six saves in goal behind incredibly tough close defense by Nick Pieretti, Jake Phenix, Michael Locorotondo, Dylan Kelleher and Steven Jarozewski to lead the Blue to the win. Tim Dalton (assisted by Ryan Murphy), Aaron Caldwell (assist by Ryan Murphy), and Harrison Gillis (unassisted) all scored.

Newtown White 5, Weston White 4 – Andrew Golankiewicz’s second goal of the game, a speed-soaked dodge from behind the goal with just over three minutes remaining, provided the difference in a thriller of a game at Weston. Kurt Nacewicz scored two goals as Newtown out-shot Weston 33-14. Jamie Bowers also had a goal and Andrew Matsis made six saves in the cage. Dana Hansen and Connor McNamara anchored the defense.

Newtown Gold 12, Trumbull A 4 – Jacob Dauz had six assists, Kevin Canavan and Tim Wheeler each had three goals and one assist, and Andrew Hyland made !2 saves as Newtown thoroughly dominated both sides of the ball. Brian Reszoly had two goals, and Matt Hill had a goal and an assist. Henry Sims, Max Paynter, and Mack Fuller each scored goals. Conor Collier, Jaime Vavrek, and John Grimaldi had assists.

Newtown A 12, Brookfield White 5 – Kevin Canavan and Tim Wheeler each scored three goals to lead Newtown to the win. Andrew Hyland made seven saves, and Brian Reszoly had two goals and one assist. Christian Beitel had two goals and Jacob Dauz had two assists as Ben Mahony and Mack Fuller each had a goal and an assist.

Junior Boys

Newtown Gold 8, Stratford A 3 – Lewis Thompson scored three goals and had two assists to lead Newtown. Brandon Body made eight saves, and the Newtown defense of Max Nacewicz, Will Northrop, Jeremy Schaniel and Justin Brophy continued to impress with their shutdown style of play. Kyle Vignone, Sean Maher, and Mike Zaccaro provided hustle from midfield. Colby Summerlin added a pair of goals.

Newtown Blue 3, Stratford B 2 – John Johnson scored a goal and had an assist in a hard fought Newtown win on the shore in Stratford. Matthew Vavrek and Scot Wexler also scored goals, and Will Fletcher had an assist. Louis Raab made eight saves. At midfield, Michael Lord, Joe Pieretti, Andrew Cebry, and Robin Middlebrook controlled the flow of action.

Newtown Blue 5, Eli 4 – Less than two minutes into overtime, Mike Fitzsimons picked up a loose ball and passed to fellow attackman Matthew Vavrek, whose shot provided the game-winning goal as Newtown won in dramatic fashion. Colin Morris scored three goals and hustled from end-to-end to pace Newtown’s offense. Vavrek had an assist in addition to scoring the winner. Corey Fisher scored the first goal of the game, and Michael Lord had an assist.

Newtown Gold 9, Trumbull A 6 – Kyle Vignone won six face-offs, had eight ground balls, scored two goals, and had one assist in the Newtown win. CJ Ryan had three goals and Lewis Thompson had a goal, two assists, and five ground balls on the day. Will Provey had two goals and Trey Trudell scored a goal in the win as Ryan Korth provided a pair of assists and seven ground balls.

Newtown Gold 9, New Fairfield 2 – Lewis Thompson scored two goals and had two assists, Evan Gilchrist had a goal and an assist, and both Kyle Vignone and CJ Ryan had two goals to lead the Gold the win. Brandon Body and Trey Trudell combined to make six saves in goal and Max Nacewicz had a stupendous game on D.

Girls 3rd/4th

Newtown versus New Fairfield – Meaghan Harkins, Meaghan Brophy, Anna Northrup and Maddie Fletcher scored goals as Emily Maher, Kelsey Packer and Kelly O’Connell provided assists. Lauren Harrison, Olivia Korth, Julia Trudell and Sarah Read were tough on defense and Katie McManus was a stopper in goal.

Newtown versus Ridgefield – Kelsey Packer, Caroline Kingsley, Maggie Kost and Kristie VosWinkel scored with assists by Julia DiLuoffo, Alison Kron and Tess Kneisel. Michelle Spanedda was great on defense and Annie Berning was a whirling dervish in goal.

IN-HOUSE

Senior Boys

Yale 13, Dartmouth 12 – Kevin Canavan scored five goals and dished off an assist to lead Yale. John Aminti scored three goals and Jamie Walsh pitched in two. Goaltenders Dylan Huebner and Ryan Murphy shared time in the cage. For Dartmouth, Tyler Davenport and Max Paynter scored four goals apiece. Goalie Jack McKay helped Dartmouth’s defense keep the game close, as he played a superb game.

Brown 11, Cornell 10 – Connor McNamara scored four goals while AJ Richie, Tyler Hardy, and Jamie Bowers each chipped in with two apiece to lead Brown. Andrew Matsis played well in the cage. Tim Wheeler led Cornell with four goals as goaltender Jon Cairns had a strong day.

Princeton 9, Harvard 8 (OT) – Ben Mahoney scored three goals while Tom Gilbert and John Grimaldi added two apiece as Princeton won in overtime. For Harvard, Rob Albino had a hat trick of his own while Cameron Gehrman and Andrew Hyland each had superb games.

Junior Boys

Syracuse 12, Duke 8 – Will Northrop had four goals and an assist and Conor Howell scored twice to lead Syracuse. Kevin Dennis and Colin Morris had a goal and an assist with single goals coming from Andrew Cebry, Connor Byrne, and Matt Sharpe. Mike Zaccaro had a hat trick for the Blue Devils as James Radcliffe and Thomas Harrison scored goals and Zach LeMein chipped in with an assist.

North Carolina 10, Maryland 7 – CJ Ryan scored four times, Joe Pieretti and John Johnson scored twice, and Josh Gilbert and Mike Fitzsimons contributed goals to lead the Tar Heels over the Terps. Chris Arnone and Roland Stephen recorded assists. For the Terps, Robin Middlebrook, Ryan Bienkowski, and Jeremy Schaniel scored two goals apiece and Colby Summerlin scored once. Matt Grace and Schaniel had assists.

Georgetown 11, Virginia 10 – Brendan McNamara had four goals and two assists, Evan Gilchrist scored twice and had an assist, and Willie Provey had a pair of goals to lead Georgetown. Michael Ownes had a goal and an assist, Lewis Thompson had two assists, and Andrew Bouton and Carson Leon Gambetta dished of assists to round out the scoring. For Virginia, Trey Trudell had three goals and an assist, Conor Halloran scored twice and had an assist, and Max Nacewicz had a pair of goals. Christian Sayegh, Ryan Korth, and Keenan Bennett scored solo goals.
