Steve Winwood Will Open Summer Concert Season

At Ives Concert Park

DANBURY — A concert by Steve Winwood on June 25 will kick off the 2005 Summer Concert Series at Ives Concert Park, which also includes appearances this season by The Chieftains, The Cast of Beatlemania, Michael McDonald, The Wildflower Festival featuring Judy Collins with special guest Joan Osborne, and more.

The series will end with the return of Daryl Hall and John Oates, who will be joined by Tears for Fears, on September 1. The concert park is on the westside campus of Western CT State University.

The Ives staff and hoard of directors hope that the diverse mix of musical genres will appeal to music fans across many spectrums. Rock ‘n roll, jazz and folk are on the schedule as well as world music events offering Celtic, Afro-Cuban and Latin sounds.

“We are very proud to announce the 2005 Summer Series,” said executive director Liz Durkin-Salvador. “We tried to appeal to many musical tastes, and hope to build cultural awareness by exposing residents of the greater Danbury area and beyond to music they may not hear on the radio.”

The 2005 series is as follows:

Saturday, June 25, Steve Winwood; Sunday, July 10, The Chieftains; Saturday, July 16, the cast of Beatlemania; Friday, July 22, Michael McDonald; and Saturday, July 30, The Wildflower Festival featuring Judy Collins, Rachel Sage and Kenny White, with special guest Joan Osborne.

The season will continue on Friday, August 12, with Arturo Sandoval and special guest Yerba Buena; Saturday, August 13, Collective Soul and The Gin Blossoms; Friday, August 26, One Heart Festival starring Mercy Me with special guest Salvador; and Thursday, September 1, Daryl Hall and John Oates with Tears for Fears.

Tickets range in price and are specific to each concert. Average lawn tickets are $23, reserved seats are all about $45, and Gold Circle Seats are in the region of $65.

Tickets are available at the Ives box office (837-9226), at TicketMaster outlets (744-8100), Filene’s, HMV Records and Coconuts record stores.
