Local CPAs Installed As Officers Of CSCPA

 ROCKY HILL — The Connecticut Society of Certified Public Accountants (CSCPA) has installed Patricia M. Poli, CPA, PhD, of Newtown to serve as president for the organization’s 2005-2006 activity year.

Alan J. Clavette, CPA, of Sandy Hook was installed as president-elect. The installations took place at the CSCPA annual meeting held recently at the Omni New Haven Hotel.

Ms Poli is an associate professor of accounting at Fairfield University. In addition to her position as president, Ms Poli has served the CPA society as president-elect, treasurer, secretary, and as a member of the Board of Governors.

She has chaired the CSCPA committees on publications, annual service award, and executive education review, and served as board liaison to the committees on accounting and reporting standards, committee structure, compilation and review services, continuing professional education, educators, employee benefit plans, governmental affairs, investment, legal relations and services, manufacturing, membership, nominating, peer review, professional ethics, relations with secondary schools, State Board of Accountancy Task Force, strategic planning, and Uniform Accountancy Act Task Force.

In addition to her activities with CSCPA, Ms Poli is a member of the American Institute of CPAs (AICPA), a member of the Institute of Management Accountants (IMA), and past president of the American Accounting Association (AAA) Northeast Region, for which she chaired the 52nd Annual Northeast Region Conference.

Ms Poli holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of Connecticut and a PhD in accounting from New York University.

Mr Clavette is managing member of the Newtown CPA firm of Clavette Josselyn & Co., LLC. In addition to his position as president-elect, Mr Clavette has served the CPA society as secretary and treasurer and as a member of the Board of Governors.

He has also served as co-chair of the CSCPA Governmental Affairs Committee and chair of the committees on state legislation, ad hoc Educational Trust Fund fundraising, annual service award, as well as serving as a board liaison to the CSCPA committees on accounting and reporting standards, ad hoc task force on CSCPA legislative efforts, educators, executive education review, federal income taxation, financial institutions, investment, nominating, not-for-profit organizations, real estate/construction, SBOA Task Force, state taxation, trust, estate and gift taxation, and UAA Task Force.

In addition to his activities with CSCPA, Mr. Clavette is a member of the American Institute of CPAs (AICPA) and its Tax and Financial Planning Divisions, a member of the Board of Trustees of Newtown Savings Bank, vice chair of the Newtown Zoning Board of Appeals, a director of the Newtown Chamber of Commerce, treasurer of the Newtown Rotary Club, a member of the Western Connecticut Estate and Tax Planning Council, and is co-host and co-producer of a cable television show entitled Family Finance. Mr Clavette also serves as a coach for the Newtown Soccer Club.

He holds a BBA from Western Connecticut State University.
