Ashlar Of Newtown Awards Scholarships

Every year Ashlar of Newtown presents two high school students with a Junior Volunteer Scholarship award in the amount of  $1,000. This year three outstanding candidates were selected to receive a scholarship.

“When the scholarship committee met in April, we never thought we would have three excellent candidates for two scholarships,” said Betty Naylor, manager of the Therapeutic Recreation department. “We had a difficult decision to make and in the end, we were able to award a third scholarship. All three are wonderful, mature young women who are excellent volunteers. All three are friends and have been accepted to UConn and we are honored to have had them over the years,” said Naylor.

Ashlar of Newtown congratulated Amber Finlayson, who was awarded the Junior Scholarship Award, and Jessica Budnick, who received the Victoria and Alexander Bruno Scholarship. Kaitlyn DiVanno took home both the Ashlar of Newtown Resident Council Scholarship and the Lockwood Lodge Resident Council Scholarship for $500 each.
