An Appeal For Help

To the Editor:

World Help Foundation is in urgent need of your general support. General support funds our disaster and developmental operations, as well as the core costs necessary to save lives, and improve health and community care. 

Eight thousand dollars is urgently needed in order to send desperately needed safe water equipment to the tsunami-stricken area of Acheh, Indonesia. This equipment can produce over 20 million gallons of water in the year that it will be operating. It now costs $7 per gallon to deliver water in bottles. If 20 million gallons of bottled water were delivered in a year, this would add up to $140 million dollars, a staggering amount! Now is the time to give for this purpose. We have one tractor-trailer nearly filled and awaiting the final components, prefilters and fittings, to be added to it. We hope to see it sent out in June.

Also, $27,100 is urgently needed in order to strategically place safe water equipment in Ghana, the first country to announce its political will to achieve universal coverage with safe water by 2015. The water conditions are grave in Ghana and this equipment is specially designed to meet the need there, including the removal of arsenic from the water. The tractor trailer destined for Ghana already has computers that will be delivered to a nursing school and other locations; this container awaiting the safe water equipment that will serve a rural health clinic and nearby village, located just outside the capital of Accra, in close proximity to leaders of the country and to representatives of major donor agencies who we hope will come to see these projects and then work together with us to replicate them. We are aiming for a sending date for this container in July.

We ask for your help, too, with our administrative and fundraising expenses. We operate at an 85/15 percent ratio of program to core costs at this time. With more funding coming in, we will be able to decrease our administrative costs and are aiming at a ratio of 90/10 percent. We have an extremely small paid staff and enjoy the contributions of several very dedicated volunteers.
