Dr Nipper To Speak On Breakthroughs

 In Osteoarthritis On June 14

Due to the overwhelming response to Ashlar of Newtown’s April Lunch and Learn program on osteoarthritis, Dr Thomas P. Nipper is returning for a special Lunch and Learn event on June 14. This workshop will feature helpful hints in diagnosing serious arthritic conditions with an emphasis on the latest technology, which includes a less-invasive surgery for “total knees” and “viscosupplementation,” an injection treatment program that can improve pain and function for up to a year in almost everyone.

Dr Nipper is senior orthopedic surgeon at Brookfield Orthopedics and vice chairman of surgery at Danbury Hospital, and former chief of orthopedic surgery at Danbury Hospital. He brings more than 30 years of experience as an orthopedic surgeon in western Connecticut to the discussion.

Osteoarthritis, a degenerative joint disease, is one of the oldest and most common types of arthritis. It is characterized by the breakdown of the joint’s cartilage. Cartilage is the part of the joint that cushions the ends of the bones. When the cartilage breaks down, bones rub together and cause pain and loss of movement.

There are many risk factors associated with osteoarthritis. Attendees will learn what these factors are and what can be done to help those who suffer from this condition during the informative program.

The public is invited to attend this seminar on Tuesday, June 14, from noon to 1:30 pm, at Lockwood Lodge at Ashlar of Newtown, 139 Toddy Hill Road.

Ashlar of Newtown’s Learning Center sponsors the Lunch and Learn series, which provides the public with health and wellness information presented by area specialists. In addition, a complimentary lunch is served. There is no fee to attend; however, seating is limited and reservations are required to attend.

Reservations for the workshop can be made by calling Laura Vhay, at 364-3127. Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis.
