Anna S. Crouch, 87, of Southbury died peacefully at Danbury Hospital May 22, surrounded by her children. Known to many as “Oma,” she was born September 18, 1927, to Rosina and Josef Staudhammer in Rosenheim, Bavaria, Germany.

Mrs Crouch moved to America after World War II as a war bride with her husband Frederick Dave Crouch, who was a US Marine. They settled together in Newtown and had five children.

Her career was with the Connecticut Department of Developmental Services at Southbury Training School. She loved working with individuals with disabilities and retired as a residential program supervisor.

Mrs Crouch was a founding member of the Bible Baptist Church in Newtown, where she taught Sunday school, and sang in the church choir. For the last 20 years, she was a member of Central Baptist Church in Southington.

Her favorite pastimes included attending her German Conversation group with her fellow German friends, reading books on history, birdwatching and gardening, and knitting. Most of all she loved any time spent with her beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She leaves behind four children and their spouses, Dinah and Jim Walsh of Sandy Hook, Arthur and Norma Crouch of New Milford, Susan and Dan O’Connor of Southington, and Pamela and Tim Palmer of Roxbury; daughter-in-law Mary Crouch of Northfield; ten grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews here in America and in Germany. Her husband of 64 years; two sisters, Centa and Josephine; a brother, Sepp; and her son, Frederick Crouch, predeceased Mrs Crouch.

Calling hours are Friday, May 29, at Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown, from 5 to 8 pm. Funeral services will take place Saturday, May 30, at Honan Funeral Home, at 11 am, followed by interment at Newtown Village Cemetery, Elm Drive.
