Waterbury Hospital Teams Up With Woodbury Yoga Center
WATERBURY â Waterbury Hospital and the Woodbury Yoga Center have joined forces to offer yoga classes at the hospital beginning June 14.
âThe Woodbury Yoga Center is a highly regarded leader in yoga, meditation, and complementary care in general,â said Steven E. Schneider, MD, vice president of medical affairs and managed care at Waterbury Hospital. âMany physicians are now recommending their patients explore these practices to help manage stress and enhance their health. Our hospital is very excited about this new partnership.â
The Woodbury Yoga Center was founded in 1984 and is directed by Janaki Pierson, who has been practicing and teaching yoga and meditation for more than 20 years. She initiated a meditation and yoga program at Greenwich Hospital five years ago.
âMeditation and yoga help people find a quiet oasis of peace in the midst of a busy day,â Ms Pierson said. âThere are certainly many benefits for people who are healthy and wish to remain healthy. But we also welcome people with medical challenges, whether they be side effects from chemotherapy, hypertension, chest pain, or other health concerns.â
Waterbury Hospital will offer three classes. They are Saturday mornings from June 24 through August 5, from 9:30 to 11 am, instructed by staff from Woodbury Yoga; Wednesday evenings from June 14 through August 2, from 6 to 7:30 pm, instructed by staff from Woodbury Yoga; Thursday evenings from 5:45 to 7 pm, instructed by private yoga teacher Veronica Kleeman.
The class fee for the Saturday and Wednesday programs is $85 for a seven-week series. There is a $10 discount for registration and payment received by June 5. The Thursday evening program is $12 per class.
All classes are held in the Bizzozero Conference Room on the fourth floor of Waterbury Hospital. For more information, call 203/573-7385.
