Hawk Laxmen Make Statement In Class L Qualifying Round Triumph

Newtown High School’s boys’ lacrosse team began Class L state tournament action with a convincing win, toppling visiting Brien McMahon of Norwalk 18-3 in a qualifying round matchup at Blue & Gold Stadium, on May 25.

The Garritys each logged seven points. Jeffrey Garrity scored six goals and had an assist, and Tucker Garrity netted four goals and three assists.

Brennan Mayer scored a goal and added four assists. Aiden Coleman and Brett Pierce each netted two goals and had an assist. Brandon Manka had a goal and an assist, and Andre Sokk and Will Swierbut each added net-finders.

Sokk led Newtown with four ground ball scoops. Nighthawk goaltender Jake Dandrea made five saves.

Newtown is the No. 10 seed in the bracket, and McMahon was the No. 23 team.

The Nighthawks earned a visit to No. 7 Xavier of Middletown, of the Southern Connecticut Conference in the first round, scheduled for Wednesday, May 29. Game time is set for 4:30 pm.
