Elizabeth Ray

Elizabeth Thompson Ray, a resident of Newtown and the widow of Vincent P. Ray, died Monday at Danbury Hospital.

Mrs Ray had been a longtime resident of the Danbury area, and she had been a devoted Episcopalian through her membership of St James’ Episcopal Church, Danbury, and in retirement, as a member of Trinity Episcopal Church, Newtown. She was a graduate of Mt Sinai School of Nursing in New York City. After graduation, she returned to Danbury and married Vincent P. Ray, a local pharmacist, and she had been active in the operation of their pharmacy for many years.

Upon retirement, the couple moved to Santa Barbara, Calif., and then returned to make their home in Newtown 15 years later. Both Mr and Mrs Ray had been active in civic affairs. Mrs Ray was a volunteer for the Western Connecticut Chapter of American Red Cross, and had been involved in numerous church activities. Mr Ray was a member and past president of the Rotary Club of Danbury.

The couple was also involved in the Order of the Eastern Star and had served Stellar Chapter #55 of Danbury in many capacitates, including chapter organist for many terms. They also had traveled with the Lodge Statewide, and had visited nationally during a period of over 60 years.

Mrs Ray is survived by two brothers, Harry A. Thompson of Chatsworth, Calif., and Charles J. Thompson of Verona, Wisc., and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral will be held at St James’ Episcopal Church, 25 West Street, Danbury, on Friday, May 26, at 11 am. Friends will be received at The Tomlinson Homestead, 336 Main Street, Danbury on Thursday, May 25, from 6 to 9 pm.
