Police Note Incidents From Stormy Day

Police report incidents that occurred either during or after the severe storm that hit the town late on the afternoon of May 15.[naviga:img class="aligncenter wp-image-319800" src="https://newtownbee.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/SH_May-15-storm-vehicle-near-70-Berkshire-02.jpg" alt="SH_May 15 storm -- vehicle near 70 Berkshire 02" width="800" height="487" /]The driver of and passenger in this 2017 Volkswagen Jetta escaped serious injury after a tree fell on the vehicle during the macroburst that moved through the area on May 15. 

During the storm, at about 5:29 pm, a tree fell onto a 2017 Volkswagen Jetta auto being driven eastward near 70 Berkshire Road (Route 34) by Jack Hanley, 18, of Newtown.

Police said that Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps checked out both Hanley and passenger Peter Pfeiffer, 18, of Sandy Hook, both of whom apparently received minor injuries and both of whom refused further medical care. Sandy Hook Volunteer Fire andamp; Rescue firefighters also responded to that incident.

At about 6:38 pm on May 15, on Mt Pleasant Road, near Tory Lane, motorist Megan Lockwood, 18, of Monroe, who was driving a 2005 Chrysler Sebring auto, passed multiple vehicles on the right and while doing so, the Chrysler's left exterior rear-view mirror struck the right front fender of a 2015 Dodge Ram pickup truck driven by Albert Bonamici, 58, of Newtown.

The Chrysler continued onward, police said. Later down the road, while waiting in traffic, Bonamici approached Lockwood to inform her of the collision, after which Lockwood drove forward and struck Bonamici, who was on foot. He was able to avoid injury.

After investigating, police issued Lockwood a misdemeanor summons on a charge of reckless driving, requiring that Lockwood appear in court before a judge to answer the charges.

Also, police report that on May 21, a resident of Great Quarter Road at Lake Zoar found a wooden boat dock that had floated down the Housatonic River. The dock likely broke free from its mooring due to the intense storm on May 15 and then floated downriver. Anyone who is a missing a dock may contact police at 203-426-5841.
