Time Running Out To Purchase Duck Race Tickets

On Saturday, May 28, the Newtown Lions Club will present the Annual Great Pootatuck Duck Race from 10 am to 3:30 pm in Sandy Hook Center.

Tickets for the rubber duck race are going fast in anticipation of a great family day. There are 20 prizes to win, including the top prize of $2,000. Second prize this year is a weekend getaway trip to New York worth $600. Another 18 prizes have also been arranged for, donated by establishments all over Newtown.

Event emcee Bob Schmidt has some great entertainment on tap, including performances by students and faculty of Ashurst Irish Dance School, The Amazing Magic Marty, Chuck and Tim Acoustic Rock, Lathrop School of Dance, Porco Karate Academy, and The Graceful Planet.

There will be more than 30 exhibitors set up on the green at 5 Glen Road, including Fidelco Guide Dogs, Kevin's Community Center, Freedom Guide Dogs for the Blind, Newtown Strong Therapy Dogs, Newtown Women's Club, Relay For Life, Beautiful Babies, Mom's Club in Newtown, Support and Wellness, and Women Involved in Newtown, to name just a few.

The weekend of May 20-22 is the last weekend to purchase tickets in advance from Lions Club members.

On Friday, May 20, club members will be selling tickets outside My Place Restaurant and Yankee Wine, both on Queen Street, from 5 to 7:30 pm.

On Saturday, they will be selling tickets at Stop & Shop in Sand Hill Plaza,. 228 South Main Street, from 10 am until 2 pm; and Newtown Hardware (61 Church Hill Road) and Bagel Delight (30 Church Hill Road), from 9 am until 1 pm.

Then on Sunday, local Lions will be set up outside Yankee Wine from 2 to 4 pm.

Tickets can also be purchased during business hours, in Newtown, at Bagel Delight, Booth Library, Cork-N-barrel, Joanne Fitness Studio, Queen Street Cleaners, Shear Image, the Tax Collector's Office at Newtown Municipal Center, Toy Tree, Yankee Wine, and Your Healthy Pet.

Tickets are also available at Dodgingtown Liquor Store, and Hawleyville Liquor Store. In Sandy Hook, tickets are available at Berkshire Motors, Fun Kuts, PJ's Laundromat, Sandy Hook Deli, Sandy Hook Diner, Sandy Hook Hair Co., Sandy Hook Liquor Store, and Village Perk Café.

Any remaining tickets will be available for purchase on Race Day.
