Newtown Historical Society will sponsor a clothing drive in conjunction with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southwestern Connecticut. The drive will take place Saturday, June 4, from 9 am to 3 pm, at the Big Brothers Big Sisters donation center at 129 South Main Street in Newtown.

Big Brothers Big Sisters is an organization that offers mentoring programs for young people, while the historical society promotes awareness of the town's heritage. Gently used clothing, shoes, handbags, and linen will be accepted to raise money for each organization.

Representatives of the historical society will be at the store to help donors with unloading and carrying clothing bundles. In return, the historical society will receive 20 cents per pound for the clothing brought in on that day. Be sure to tell the attendants that donations are being made in the name of Newtown Historical Society.

Spring is a great time to clean out the attic and the closets for items that may have become too small or are otherwise no longer wanted.

For others, the efforts at dieting and/or fitness may have finally paid off with a smaller size. Celebrate that victory by donating clothes that no longer fit.

For whatever reason clothing is donated, all will be gratefully accepted during the clothing drive.

For further information about Newtown Historical Society and this event, call 203-426-5937 or newtownhistory.org. For information about the programs and activities of Big Brothers Big Sisters call 203-366-3766, extension 22.

Big Brothers Big SIsters and Newtown Historical Society will both benefit from a clothing drive being planned for June 4.
