Vivian Swain

Vivian (Hayward) Swain, 80, of Norwalk died May 13 in Norwalk Hospital. The wife of the late Frank Howard Swain, she had survived a partial paralyzing stroke for ten years.

She was the mother of Kenneth Howard Swain of Newtown, and grandmother of Spencer and Morgan Eve Swain.

Born October 19, 1919, in Bridgeport, the daughter of the late Arthur E. and Pearl Hayward, Mrs Swain had been a resident of Norwalk for 53 years. She retired as a department manager after 25 years with Sears in Norwalk and Stamford. She had been a lifelong advocate of music, dance and athletics and had volunteered many hours teaching youngsters to enjoy them as she did.

Mrs Swain is survived by three other sons, including A. Bradford Swain of Glastonbury, Richard Hayward Swain of Melvin Village, N.H., and Robert Wolfe (Chip) Swain of Norwalk, and eight grandchildren. Mrs Swain was predeceased by a brother, Kenneth Hayward, and a sister, Marjorie Wheeler. Mrs Wheeler’s two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren also reside in Newtown.

Funeral services for Mrs Swain took place in Collins Funeral Home, Norwalk, with the Rev Henry K. Yordon, pastor of the First Congregational Church on the Green, officiating. A service and interment will be in Melvin Village, N.H., close to the lake she and her family love.

Memorial donations may be sent to Norwalk Hospital Cardiac Care Unit. The family wishes to thank the Newtown Congregational Church for its support and prayers.
