Erin Archer, daughter of Mark and Deborah Archer of Cobblers Mill Road, graduated from Randolph Macon Woman's College in Lynchburg, Va., in May with a BA in politics and a minor in Russian.  She will study International Law at City College of Law

Erin Archer, daughter of Mark and Deborah Archer of Cobblers Mill Road, graduated from Randolph Macon Woman’s College in Lynchburg, Va., in May with a BA in politics and a minor in Russian.  She will study International Law at City College of Law in London, England, in September.  She played soccer for Randolph Macon both at home and abroad in England during her junior year, and was captain of the team her senior year.

Christopher Savage graduated in May from Texas Tech University School of Law with a Juris Doctor. Mr Savage is a 1993 graduate of Newtown Schools. He is currently studying for the Texas Bar exam and plans to practice tax law in the Dallas, Texas, area where he has made his home.

Stephanie Dorenbosch, the daughter of Mrs Ilene Dorenbosch of Chestnut Hill Road in Sandy Hook, received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Hamilton College in commencement exercises on Sunday, May 21. Ms Dorenbosch, an archaeology major, graduated cum laude. She is a member of the Newtown High School class of 1996.

Beth Heather Cohen, daughter of Steven and Brenda Cohen and sister of Michael Cohen of Muirfield, has been selected as a 2000 Syracuse University Remembrance Scholar. The Scholars program, honoring 35 students annually, was started in remembrance of 35 Syracuse students who were killed when Pan American Flight 103 crashed over Lockerbie, Scotland, in 1988. Ms Cohen attended primary and middle schools in Newtown, and graduated from Shawnee High School in Medford, New Jersey. She is now a senior at Syracuse with a dual major in electrical engineering and music. At Syracuse, she is a member of the Syracuse Marching, Symphonic and Pep bands, Tau Beta Sigma Sorority, Alpha Omega Epsilon Engineering Sorority, Hillel, IEEE, and the Syracuse Pathfinders, a service organization. She is also a member of the Golden Key Honor Society and was listed in the 1998/1999 Who’s Who Among Universities and Colleges. During this summer, Ms Cohen will intern at the Bose Corporation in Boston, Mass.

Newtown resident Cindy Monica Rossi received her master of health science degree in medical laboratory sciences in commencement ceremonies at Quinnipiac College on May 14.

Newtown resident Kristina Petretti received her bachelor’s degree in psychology from Providence College on May 21. She graduated cum laude. Ms Petretti is a member of the Newtown High School class of 1996.

Newtown residents Marie Patricia Cassin (MAT), Kimberly Chiappeta (AS), Frederic Albert Clark (MBA), Catherine Mary Mark (BS), Lori Nicoll (MBA), Margaret Oliger (MBA), Victoria Roland (BA), and Laura Walker (MS-PT) were all honored during graduation ceremonies at Sacred Heart University on May 24.

Newtown resident Jaclyn K. Arsenault was recognized with honorable mention for the Al Nothem Student Teaching Award in Elementary Education during St Bonaventure University’s Honors Luncheon held May 13. Ms Arsenault is an education major.

Mark Hugo of Sandy Hook was awarded a BA degree from Hampshire College in Amherst, Massachusetts, on May 20. His concentration was in film and literature. His Division III senior project was a short film entitled The Elevator Movie. Mr Hugo is a member of the Newtown High School class of 1995.

Preston David Meyers of Newtown graduated from Vanderbilt University May 12 with a bachelor of engineering degree. He is the son of Mr and Mrs Thomas O. Meyer.

Michael James Payne of Newtown graduated cum laude from Vanderbilt University May 12 with a bachelor of arts degree. He is the son of Mr and Mrs Paul D. Payne.

Brian James Russell of Newtown graduated from Vanderbilt University May 12 with a bachelor of arts degree. He is the son of Mr and Mrs John J. Russell.

Heather Lee Vockins of Newtown graduated from Vanderbilt University May 12 with a bachelor of arts degree. She is the daughter of Mrs Jere R. Vockins.

Newtown residents Alicia Maria Garcia and Timothy Smith received undergraduate degrees May 14 from the College of Charleston. Ms Garcia received a bachelor of arts degree with a concentration in theater, and Mr Smith received a bachelor of science degree in business administration.
