Portrait Program Wed. By Bob Crofut
The Society of Creative Arts of Newtown (SCAN) will be presenting an oil demonstration by Bob Crofut on Wednesday, May 28, at 1:30 pm. Mr Crofut, known for his American heritage paintings, will be discussing and painting a portrait of an American Indian.
The meeting is open to the public and will be held at Newtown Meeting House, 31 Main Street in Newtown (at the flagpole). The group meets in the buildingâs lower meeting room. Admission is free and non-members are welcome.
Mr Crofut has painted for over 25 years and has a love of historical America, which comes through in his art. He attended Boston Museum of Art and Tufts University, where he wanted to paint like the old illustrators of the 1920s and 1930s but found his only commercial outlet to be the covers for western paperbacks. He soon changed to broaden his appeal to pharmaceutical companies and magazines.
A decade ago, he pursued his first love â paintings with historical significance â by creating his own market through his American Remembrance theme. His goal is to capture moments in life that have a certain magical quality, to re-create the sense of awe and magic about life we may recall feeling as a young child.
Mr Crofut is a member of the Society of Illustrators and has received 27 citations of merit from the society. His work has appeared in Smithsonian Magazine, Alaska Magazine, National Geographic, American Heritage, Field and Stream and Readerâs Digest, among others. His work has also been featured on NBC-TV and CNN.
