John F. Hegarty
John F. âJackâ Hegarty, 76, of Hunting Ridge, Brookfield, devoted husband of Teresa M. (McDermott) Hegarty, died on May 20 at his home. He was born on March 5, 1927, in New York, N.Y., son of the late James A. and Nora A. (Sheehan) Hegarty.
Besides his loving wife of 53 years, Jack will be missed by his sons, John and his wife, Laura, of Newtown, Robert and his wife, Regina, of Brookfield, and James and his wife, Donna, of Brookfield,; four daughters, Teresa White and her husband, James, of Brookfield, Jacqueline Newman and her husband, Robert, of Simsbury, Nora Buck and her husband, Louis, of Queensbury, N.Y., and Mary Nowlan and her husband, William, of Moretown, Vt. He will also be missed by his 23 grandchildren, two nieces, and one nephew. He was predeceased by his sister, Sr Mary Hegarty, PBVM.
Mr Hegarty was a graduate of Manhattan College with a degree in electrical engineering.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the United States Navy, and was witness to the detonation of the atomic bomb at Bikini Atoll. He was a recipient of the Victory Medal of the Asiatic-Pacific Theater.
He was a past member of the finance board of Danbury Hospital, Brookfield Planning and Zoning Commission, and the Brookfield Republican Town Committee. He was a parishioner of St Joseph Church in Brookfield.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, May 24, at 10 am, at St Marguerite Bourgeoys, Brookfield. Burial will follow in Wooster Cemetery, Danbury.
The family will receive friends on Friday, May 23, between 5 and 8 pm at the Brookfield Funeral Home, 786 Federal Road, Brookfield.
