Elmer ‘Joe’ Parsons

Elmer “Joe” Parsons, 76, of 6 Eastview Road, died on May 18 at John Dempsey Hospital in Farmington. He was the husband of the late Margurite (O’Connell) Parsons, who died in 1990.

Mr Parsons was a resident of Southington for the past five years and had been a former resident of Avon for 30 years.

He was born in Manville, R.I., on May 26, 1926, and was the son of the late William E. and Irene (Whalen) Parsons.

Mr Parsons is survived by his nine children, Karen and her husband, John Omasta, of Newtown, William and his wife, Lisa, of Georgia, Maureen and her husband, Rick Dressier, of Farmington, Jed and his wife, Susan, of Weston, Margurite Parsons and Kathleen Nativo of Rocky Hill, Michael and his wife, Eileen, of Torrington, Patricia and her husband, Mark Fischer, of Avon, Peter Parsons of Windsor, and Sandra and husband, Tim Anderson, of South Carolina; 22 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his special friend, Marie Sullivan.

Mr Parsons served in the US Army during World War II and the Korean Conflict. He was employed by Sears and Roebuck as a manager and retired after 38 years of service. His love was card playing with his friends.

The funeral was held on May 21 at the DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 North Main Street, to St Ann’s Church in Avon, 289 Arch Road, for a Mass. Burial with military honors was in St Ann’s Cemetery.
