Children’s Programs

*Author Visit and Book Signing: Meet author Laurie Krebs on Saturday, May 31, when she visits Booth Library for a program at 2 pm. Mrs Krebs, who was a schoolteacher for twenty years, loves to travel. Her latest book, We All Went on Safari: A Counting Journey Through Tanzania, is a result of her visit to Africa. Copies of the book will be available for purchase following the program.

*Young Adult Summer Volunteers: Young adults entering grades 6 and above who like working with children and books are an important part of the Booth Library’s Summer Reading Program every year. Interested students are invited to attend a workshop on Monday, June 2, from 4 to 5 pm, to learn more about the volunteer program. If you can’t attend the workshop, you may pick up a packet of materials after June 1, which must be returned by June 14. Please call the Library 426-4533 to sign up or ask questions of Alana Meloni or Margaret Brown.

*Harry Potter Midnight Madness: Young adults, ages 10 and older (or entering grade five in the fall), can sign up now to purchase a copy of the new Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, which will be distributed at our Harry Potter Midnight Madness party on Friday, June 20. Parents are required to sign up their own children in person at the library. Books are $20 each.

The deadline to order a copy of the book has been extended to June 7. So, if you can’t wait, sign up for an evening of magic, food and fun. Character costumes are encouraged.

Copies of the new book will be available at the stroke of midnight if you have pre-ordered your copy. You do not have to purchase a book to attend the party, but you do have to attend the party if you want to purchase the book.

*The Magic Of Christopher: Join us for an amazing magic show on Saturday, June 21, from 2 to 3 pm, in the library’s meeting room. Young and old will be dazzled by the magic of Christopher, who just happens to be a fan of the Harry Potter series. What he knows may surprise you. Sign up sheets are located in the children’s and the young adult departments.

Adult Programs

*Computer Programs: A basic computing class with Dan Tannenbaum will be offered on Saturday, May 31, from 9 am to noon, in the meeting room. Mr Tannenbaum will also offer an intermediate class on Saturday, June 7, from 1 to 4 pm.

Pre-registation is required for either class, and a $10 fee is charged for the intermediate class. Call the library for more information.

*Book Discussions at the Library: A variety of book groups meet every month at the library which are open to the public. On Tuesday, June 3, at 1 pm, D-Day by Stephen Ambrose will be discussed; Monday, June 9, at 1 pm, The Millstone by Margaret Drabble; Tuesday, June 17, at 7 pm, Mariner’s Compass by Earlene Fowler; and on Thursday, June 19, at 7:30 pm, the book will be Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold.

*Creative Writing Group: Andrea Zimmermann is coordinating a new creative writing group which will meet for the first time on Tuesday, June 10, at 7 pm. The group is for writers of all levels who want to share their writing and ideas with others, and find support in their creative endeavors.

The group is not a class, but will provide the opportunity for motivated individuals to meet regularly and share works-in-progress. There is no charge for participating. Size is limited however, so please sign up by calling the library.

*Blood Pressure Screenings: Ashlar of Newtown will be sponsoring free blood pressure screenings on Wednesday, May 28, from 10 am to noon, in the Genealogy Room. No appointment is necessary. The screenings are conducted by a registered nurse, and related health information is usually available.

Call the library at 426-4533 to register for any of its programs or for additional information. The library’s hours are Monday through Thursday from 10 am to 8 pm, Friday from 10 am to 5 pm, Saturday from 10 am to 5 pm, and Sunday from 1 to 5 pm. The library is closed on Sundays from June 15 to Labor Day.
