Cancer Survivors Day Program June 1

DANBURY — The sixth annual Cancer Survivors Day will be on Sunday, June 1, from 9 to 11:30 am, at the Sheraton Danbury Hotel, 18 Old Ridgebury Road.

The event is sponsored by the Praxair Cancer Center of Danbury Hospital in cooperation with Ann’s Place, the Home of I Can; the American Cancer Society; and the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

The complimentary event, including breakfast and a program, will begin at 8:30 am with registration.

Keynote speaker Paul E. McGhee, PhD, will present “Laugh Yourself Loose: How Humor Helps You Cope.” The creator of The Laughter Remedy, Dr McGhee was a pioneer of humor research, laying the groundwork for the current interest in the health benefits of humor. After receiving his doctorate in developmental psychology in 1968, he spent 22 years conducting basic research on humor and laughter while teaching at the university level. He is internationally known for his own humor research, and has published more than 50 scientific articles and 11 books on humor.

Dr McGhee’s Eight-Step Humor Skills Program is used by many organizations to learn the basic foundation skills required to cope with job and life stress, and how to use humor to develop the resilience required to remain effective.
