The expectations may have been a little bit modest back in April, with head coach Ed Obloj looking simply to instill a winning attitude in a team that had experienced a large turnover from the year before.
Well, winning two of three in their final quad meet of the regular season, the Nighthawks have found a winning attitude, boosting their record to 9-5. Now they will be looking to achieve another one of their goals â a more ambitious goal â and that is to finish in the top three at the South-West Conference championship next week.
Peter Terrance was a triple winner, grabbing the 100 high hurdles (15.5), the 400 meters (51.2), and the 200-meter dash (23.7) to lead the âHawks to wins over New Fairfield (97-53) and Immaculate (134-7).
The locals fell to Weston (84-66).
Tim Carlisle tied for first in the 300 intermediate hurdles at 42.9, with Eric Taylor just a tenth of a second off at 43.0 in third place. Pete Dittmar finished first in the 3,200 meters at 10:47 and Tim Robinson took first in the triple jump at 39-101/4 . The 4x400 relay team of Adam Konneker, John Collins, Evan Forstrom and Terrance also took first with a seven-second win over New Fairfield.
The championship meet will be held Tuesday, May 27, at 4:30 pm, at Bethel High School.
