Absentee Ballots Now Available
Absentee ballots are available in the town clerkâs office in Edmond Town Hall for the special referendum on the $79.4 million town budget. The special referendum will be held on Wednesday, May 28, from 6 am to 8 pm, at the Newtown Middle School gymnasium on the question, âShall the sum of $79,437,162 be appropriated as the town budget for the 2003â2004 fiscal year?â
Any person who is a registered voter in the town of Newtown or who is a US citizen who is assessed at least $1,000 for the real estate or motor vehicles on the 2002 Grand List for the Town of Newtown is qualified to vote in the referendum.
Absentee ballots are available during office hours, Monday through Friday, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm.
In addition, the town clerkâs office will have special hours on Saturday, May 24, from 9 am to noon, for the sole purpose of absentee ballot voting.
Any qualified person who meets any of the following criteria may vote by absentee ballot: active service in the Armed Forces; absence from town during all of the hours of voting; illness; physical disability; religious tenets that forbid secular activity on the day of the referendum; or duties as a referendum official at a polling place other than their own during all of the hours of voting.
