A Brief Reminder:

How

To Vote

By Dottie Evans

Registrar of Voters LeReine Frampton has noted during the last two referendums that some Newtown residents voting for the first time are not sure about the procedure. She recommends that anyone who has not voted before or who is uncertain should review the following steps before going to the Newtown Middle School polling place next Wednesday.

“Also, people should feel free to ask any of the election officials for help,” she added.

1. Go to the check-in line that has the sign showing the first letter of your street name.

2. Be prepared to show some form of identification, such as a driver’s license.

3. Then the checker will give you a ticket.

4. Go to a voting machine and give the ticket to the machine tender.

5. Step into the machine and pull the large red-handled lever in front of you all the way over to one side. This closes the curtain.

6. Push down the small blue lever indicating your choice and leave it down. If you change your mind, you may raise it and push down the other lever. Either way, be sure one of the two small levers is down indicating your vote.

7. Now pull the large red-handled lever back to its original position. This registers your vote, returns the small blue lever back to its original upright position and opens the curtain so you can leave.
