The 14th Annual Bethany Horse Show will take place on Sunday, June 4th beginning at 8 am at the Old Bethany Airport on Route 63 and one of the biggest attractions of the show will be the return of about 75 miniature horses and addition of some “majestic” breeds.

Sponsored by the Bethany Lions Club and the Sleeping Giant Pony Club there will be four rings operating simultaneously with one ring just for miniature horses. These are not ponies, but exactly scaled down models of regular horses shorter than your yard stick, not more than 34 inches at the shoulder, and weighing less than 500 pounds. The colts weight less than large dogs. They will be competing in driving, jumping and obstacle classes as well as being judged for the best conformation.

This year there will also be some emphasis on the majestic breeds too. Added to this show’s lineup is a Majestic Horse Halter Class specifically for exhibitors to show off their draft breed horse. Already entered are two large black Frisians (descending from Holland) of Bethany’s own Black Legend Farm, two Percherons (originating in France) from Chadderbox Percheron Farm in Woodbury and a two-year-old Clydesdale (a Scottish breed) from The Foxbury Farm in Burlington. These majestic breeds will show primarily in the driving classes, but one of the Frisians is entered in the Saddle Seat Pleasure class.

The other rings with classes for regular sized horses. Hunters and jumpers will be in the North ring, short stirrup, and junior exhibitor riders compete in the Grass ring. The South ring features Arabians, American Saddlebreds, Appaloosas, Western and Carriage Driving.

The Bethany Horse Show will begin at 8 am rain or shine and continue all day long. Admission is only $2.50 with children under ten years of age free. For additional information call 272-0142.
