Robert L. Lones

Robert Leonard Lones, 71, a resident of Port Charlotte, Fla., died May 21 at his son’s residence in Sudbury, Vt.

He was the father of James Lones of Newtown.

He was born in Nashua, N.H. on October 21, 1928, the son of Harry E. and Ruth M. (Dobens) Lones.

Mr Lones married Elizabeth A. Wallace in 1954.

He was a US Navy veteran of World War II.

Mr Lones had been employed by Draper Laboratory as an electrical engineer and section chief for 30 years prior to his retirement. He worked on guidance and navigation for the Apollo Space Program.

He was a longtime resident of North Reading, Mass. prior to moving to Port Charlotte in 1990. He was a summer resident of Raymond, Me.

Mr Lones was a Boy Scout leader for many years for Troop 741 in North Reading.

Survivors also include his wife of Port Charlotte, Fla., two other sons, Paul Lones of North Yarmouth, Me. and John Lones of Sudbury, Vt.; a sister, Diana Moquin of Merrimack, N.H.; two brothers, Richard Lones of Port Charlotte, Fla. and Ralph Lones of Amherst, N.H.; and seven grandchildren. He was predeceased by a sister, Barbara Ryan.

Memorial services will be held at 9 am on Saturday, May 27 at St John the Evangelist Church in South Portland, Me. Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery in Portland, Me.

There will be no public calling hours.

Arrangements are by the Miller and Ketcham Funeral Home, Brandon, Vt.
