Donovan Receives St Francis Award

Enriqueta (Kiquis) Donovan of Newtown, a year 2000 graduate of the Franciscan University of Steubenville, was selected by the school’s Student Outreach program to receive the St Francis Award for her commitment to care for the poor in the spirit of St Francis of Assisi.

She also was one of three finalists of senior women to be nominated for the National Council of Catholic Women College Leadership Award for the Diocese of Steubenville.

Ms Donovan was selected for the St Francis Award because of her work as one of the founding members of the missionary group LUMEN, her 3 am missionary intercessor group at the Port, a eucharistic adoration chapel; and her assistance in the annual spring break mission trip to the ranchos of General Cepeda, Mexico

Her missionary work also has taken her to minister among the poor of Calcutta, Indian; the orphans at La Finca Del Nino in Honduras, and she is preparing for mission work in China after graduation.

“As a resident assistant in Trinity Hall, Kiquis is a student recognized by her peers as one whose whole life is dedicated to service, one who is a source of encouragement and motivation, loves the Lord, and strives for academic achievement,” Said Fr Stanley H. Holland, TOR, director of student outreach, Works of Mercy, at the Franciscan University of Steubenville.

“Kiquis is an inspriation and role model for others,” he said. “She is a leader, a servant and humble. Student Outreach is grateful for the way Kiquis is making a difference in the life of the students, the university and the church.”

This annual National Council of Catholic Women College Leadership awards program was established to recognize outstanding Catholic women college seniors attending a Catholic college or university within the local diocese. Nominees for that award must have outstanding qualities of leadership, faith and service exemplified throughout her college career.

Ms Donovan is the daughter of Kevin and Queta Donovan of Newtown and a member of St Rose of Lima Parish. She graduated magna cum laude from the Franciscan University of Steubenville with a bachelor of arts degree in theology on May 13.
