Beethoven For The Millennium

DANBURY — Danbury Opera’s special millennium program, a concert presentation of highlights of Beethoven’s Fidelio, will be presented at 8 pm on Saturday, June 3, at Danbury Music Centre.

Soloists Betty Jones, James Noland, Cheryl Hill, John Taylor Thomas and Ronald Broden will be joined by conductor James Humphreville and a special volunteer orchestra for the celebration, which will be offered free of charge to the public in honor of the millennium.

Beethoven’s Fidelio was selected because its subject: the triumph of love and the human spirit over tyranny still seems relevant as we move into the new century. The concert will present the major solos and vocal ensembles, in German, with narration of the story in place of the original dialogue.
