Abraham J. Melzer, 78, of New York City, formerly of Sandy Hook, died May 2 after a long illness. He was born in Yonkers, N.Y., October 26, 1935, to Essie (Hulnick) and Max Melzer.

Mr Melzer was a veteran, having served in the US Navy for eight years, and worked for several companies, including Pitney-Bowes in Newtown.

His second wife, Lorraine Miller, of New York City; his daughters Marci Melzer and Marissa (Melzer) Becker; son-in-law Adam Becker; two grandsons; his brother Franklin Melzer, and his wife Sondra; his brother Harvey Melzer, and his wife Arline; his first wife Sally Melzer; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews survive Mr Melzer.
