Route 34 Accident

Police reported a three-vehicle chain reaction accident on Route 34 about 5:40 pm May 11.

Police said a 1993 Pontiac sedan driven by Donna Puma, 31, of Ridgefield struck a 1992 Toyota Camry driven by Judith A. Kennedy, 39, of 12 Rose Lane, Sandy Hook, pushing the Toyota into a 1979 Cadillac Coupe de Ville driven by Ian T. Pharo, 32, of Algonquin Trail, Sandy Hook.

The accident caused a minor injury to a passenger in the Toyota, Shannon Kennedy, 11, of 12 Rose Lane, Sandy Hook, police said. Police issued Puma an infraction ticket on a charge of following too closely.

Larceny Charge

Police report they found a disabled vehicle on Mt Pleasant Road about 10:30 pm May 18 and learned it was stolen from Maryland. Police said they found Daniel Reynolds, 45, of Virginia walking on the road near the vehicle, and after investigating, charged him with third-degree larceny by possession in connection with the vehicle’s presence.

Police held Reynolds on a $2,500 bond for an appearance the following day in Danbury Superior Court.

DWI in Botsford

Police report that motorist Richard Seaman, 47, of 4 Still Hill Road, Sandy Hook, was driving a 1995 Ford F-150 pickup truck eastbound on Swamp Road in Botsford about 2 am May 20 when he passed a vehicle, lost control of the truck, went off the right side of the road, and struck a utility pole, causing it to fall across the street and pull down  a number of utility lines.

Police said Seaman received a hand injury in the crash. Police charged him with driving while intoxicated and making a restricted turn. He was scheduled to appear in court to answer the charges.

Mile Hill South

Motorist Thomas S. Oristaglio, 17, of 8 Stonewall Ridge, who was driving a 1998 Volvo S-70 sedan northbound on Mile Hill Road South about 5 pm May 19, failed to negotiate a curve in the road and went off the right side of the street hitting a stone wall, after which the auto reentered the road, crossed it and went off the left side of the road, police said. Oristaglio was not injured, police said. Police issued him a written warning for failure to drive in the established lane.

Checkpoint

Police report motorist Christopher C. Murphy, 37, of Easton was driving on Wasserman Way about 11:18 pm May 19 when he was stopped by police at a sobriety checkpoint at Fairfield Hills.

Police said they charged Murphy with driving under the influence of drugs, possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Police released Murphy on a promise to appear in Danbury Superior Court May 25.

Charges Pending

Newtown police report they stopped motorist Philip Scappatura, 32, of 4 Beaver Dam Road at a sobriety checkpoint on Wasserman Way at Fairfield Hills early on the morning of May 20.

Newtown police said they charged Scappatura with operating a motor vehicle while under suspension. Newtown police said they checked with state police and learned that state police wanted Scappatura on a warrant listing a charge of second-degree failure to appear in court. Newtown police turned over Scappatura to state police.

Scappatura is scheduled to appear in Danbury Superior Court on May 30 and June 1 on the state police and town police charges, respectively.

Queen Street DWI

Police said they charged a local man with driving while intoxicated and failure to obey an officer’s signal early on the morning of May 20 on Queen Street in the town center.

Police said they charged Francis S. Feli, Jr, 28, of 55 Georges Hill Road with the offenses. After processing, Feli was released on a promise to appear in Danbury Superior Court June 1.

Warrant Served

Police said they served a warrant May 21 against Robert S. Dipple, 26, of 41 Cherry Street, Sandy Hook, on a charge of second-degree failure to appear in court stemming from an original charge of breach of the peace.

Dipple was scheduled to appear in Danbury Superior Court May 22.

Truck Vs Guardrail

State police said tractor-trailer truck driver Timothy V. Dignard, 44, of Gardner, Mass, was traveling eastbound on Interstate-84 about 1,000 feet east of the Exit 9 on-ramp about 2 pm May 19 when the truck he was driving struck some guardrailing.

Exit 11 Crash

About 7 am May 19, the 1993 Mitsubishi coupe that Nouphay Detoudom, 25, of New Britain, was driving on the Interstate-84 Exit 11 off-ramp struck the rear end of a 1979 Lincoln coupe driven by Paulette Bardugone, 57, of Southbury, state police said. There were no injuries. State police said Detoudom was following too closely.

 

Nissan Collision

State police said motorist Pietro M. Guerrera, 20, of Monroe, who was driving a 1993 Nissan sedan on the westbound Interstate-84 Exit 10 on-ramp about 10:40 am May 18, lost control of the auto and struck some guardrailing. Other details were not available.

Rear Ender

State police said a 1985 Buick coupe, which was being driven by Santos Rivera, Jr, 31, of New Britain about 8 am May 16 at Exit 11 of westbound Interstate-84, struck the rear end of a 1995 Saturn driven by Mary Ann Perugini, 29, of Waterbury. There were no injuries. State police said Rivera was following too closely.

Interstate 84 Crash

State police said motorist Sonia Jowhar, 29, of Danbury, who was driving a 1997 Geo Prizm on westbound Interstate-84 near Exit 11 about 3:30 pm May 15, was traveling too fast when she attempted to avoid a vehicle and lost control of the Geo, went into a spin and struck guardrailing in the highway median. Jowhar was not injured.

Sand Hill Plaza

Police report they stopped motorist Glenn C. DaSilva, 33, of Woodbury in the Sand Hill Plaza parking lot off South Main Street about 11:30 pm May 21 and charged him with driving while intoxicated and operating a motor vehicle while under suspension.

After processing, police released DaSilva on a written promise to appear in Danbury Superior Court June 1 to answer the charges.
