Horse Trading

On The Trade Bill

To the Editor:

The China Trade Bill is close to a vote in Washington and the horse-trading among pols is something to behold.

Meanwhile, our Congressman Maloney seems so deeply in the pocket of the unions, nobody’s even trying to twist his arm.

I don’t get it. China is one of Connecticut’s top 12 export markets (see “State-by-state opportunities” then “Connecticut” at www.chinapntr.gov); Connecticut could use some horse-trading to get back more than the 65 percent of its taxes paid to Washington; and free trade benefits us all with the best prices from the optimum origins.

There’s nothing moderate or “new Democrat” about this Congressman; he’s the old-fashioned kind I thought Clinton had scared out of politics a long time ago.
