Local, state, and federal entities will all be affected by the Memorial Day holiday on Monday, May 31.

All town offices will be closed on Memorial Day. Town boards and commissions will not be meeting.

Newtown Senior Center, the schools, and C.H. Booth Library also will be closed.

The transfer station on Ethan Allen Road will be closed. (The transfer station is regularly closed to the public on Mondays. It will not be open on Memorial Day for commercial service.)

There is no regular mail delivery.

Connecticut Department of Motor Vehicle offices will be open from 7:45 am to 12:30 pm Friday, May 28. They will be closed on Saturday, May 29, and Monday, May 31. They will reopen on Tuesday, June 1, at 7:45 am.

The Newtown Bee and Antiques and The Arts Weekly offices will be closed Saturday through Monday, May 29–31, and will reopen at 8 am Tuesday, June 1.

Deadlines for editorial content for The Newtown Bee print edition of Friday, June 4, will not be affected by the holiday. Advertising deadlines will be affected, however; call 203-426-3141 for information.

According to US flag code, the American flag on Memorial Day should be briskly raised to the peak and remain there for an instant before it is slowly lowered to the half-staff position, where it remains until noon. Then the flag is briskly hoisted to the peak again. —Bee file photo
