Lorraine "Rain" Jones, 82, of Sandy Hook, formerly of Easton, died peacefully May 17, surrounded by her family, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born in Newark, N.J., on April 12, 1936, daughter of the late Catherine Lufft.

Ms Jones was an avid bowler and golfer, and she enjoyed pottery, traveling, bingo, needlepoint, and crossword puzzles. She particularly enjoyed spending her summers in Lake George, N.Y., with her family. Ms Jones was known for her love of animals and had a special place in her heart for birds. She enjoyed keeping up with the news and watching her favorite television shows - Jeopardy, NCIS, Dancing With the Stars, and Survivor, to mention a few. She also loved cruising around in her golf cart. Ms Jones' loved ones say she had a sharp wit and incredible sense of humor.

Her three children, Lori Sciortino of Sandy Hook, Gregory Jones and his wife, Nellie, of Newtown, and John "Jack" Van Sant of Bridgeport survive her. Ms Jones is also survived by six loving grandchildren, Nicole Ziobo, Dawn Sciortino, Jake Van Sant, Mary Kate Van Sant, Katie Jones, and Alyssa Jones; a great-granddaughter; and her cousin.

Ms Jones' family would like to express their appreciation to the Yale Smilow Cancer Center, who helped provide care throughout her illness. They would also like to thank her support system of friends, extended family, and caretakers.
