Girls' Golfers Still Perfect, And Boys Keep Winning
Newtown High School’s girls’ golf team improved to 11-0 with a win over Immaculate of Danbury, on May 18, and a victory over Masuk of Monroe, on May 20 — both at Rock Ridge Country Club. The NHS boys’ golfers improved to 10-3 with a victory at Weston, on May 17, and a home triumph over Bunnell of Stratford, on May 20.
Against Immaculate, the Newtown girls shot a 189 and Mustangs fired a 228. Sarah Houle shot a 40 to lead the Nighthawks. Molly Wilson shot a 44, Halle Wilson had a 49, and Brenna Kelly fired a 52. In the Masuk match, the Hawks scored 199 and the Panthers had 239. Houle again led the way, shooting a 45, Molly Wilson shot a 49, Kelly had a 51, and Liz Weisgerber rounded out the top four with a 54.
The boys’ golfers edged host Weston by a stroke as the Nighthawks shot a 176 and Weston fired a 177. Graham Hubbert and Colin Patrick both shot a 43, Ryan Patrick shot a 44, and Jacob Burden and Josh Houle each shot a 46. The Hawks shot a 156 to Bunnell’s 195 to pick up their tenth victory. Colin Patrick shot a 36, Hubbert fired a 38, Houle shot a 39, Burden had a 43, and Ryan Patrick shot a 48.
The girls close out the regular season with a visit to Joel Barlow at Redding Country Club, on Tuesday, May 27, beginning at 3 pm, and a visit to Danbury’s Richter Golf Course, the next day, to take on the host Hatters along with Darien, at 3:15 pm. Newtown’s boys squad visits Stratford on May 26, and Brookfield, on May 28 — both at 3 pm.
South-West Conference championship action will unfold for the boys on May 29, at Danbury’s Ridgewood Country Club, and for the girls on June 2, at Orange Hills Country Club.
