‘Water Works’ Group Show At Gregory James Gallery

NEW MILFORD — For centuries, the bucolic charm of the countryside has beckoned artists who made an annual pilgrimage from New York City to the hills of Fairfield and Litchfield Counties. Particularly inspiring were the region’s well-known bodies of water — Housatonic River, Kent Falls, Candlewood Lake — rivers, streams and lakes that capture the imaginations of artists who translate to canvas with paint and brush the beauty, solace and recreation they provide.

Building on this idea and revealing a tradition that continues today, Gregory James Gallery is presenting “Water Works,” a group show of paintings by some of the region’s established and emerging artists, through June 26. The show offers representational and impressionistic interpretations, as well as more expressionistic and contemporary abstract versions of the landscape.

The show features works by Ralph Della-Volpe, Frank Federico, Robert Ferrucci, Thomas Adkins, Chris Magadini, James Coe, Julie Hopkins, Brian Kiernan, Dick McEvoy and Scott Zuckerman.

What differentiates “Water Works” from its predecessor is the diversity among artists. While inspired by the same subject, their artistic impulses and translations of their inspiration is as individual and diverse as the artists themselves.

The Gregory James Gallery, at 13 Main Street in New Milford, can be reached for additional information at 860-354-3436 or GregoryJamesGallery.com.
