Pitcher Ekstrom Hurls No-Hitter

Onex pitcher Austin Ekstrom threw a seven inning complete game no-hitter against a Ridgefield 15U team in Babe Ruth Baseball action on May 15 at Newtown Middle School. Ekstrom was brilliant, as he walked only one batter while striking out nine.

The pitcher kept the Ridgefield batters off balance all game long and allowed only one ball to be hit out of the infield in seven innings. The only scary moment was the last out of the game, which was the one ball hit out of the infield, a well-struck shot into left center that Onex centerfielder Matt Hoyt chased down to record the final out and preserve Ekstrom’s no-hitter. Onex won 4-1.

There were many great fielding plays for Onex. Eric Sutton at shortstop, Ryan Pisani at third base and Matt Spencer at second base all made some sparkling defenses plays, and Troy Larsen made a nice catch on a line at first to stifle the Ridgefield batters. Dean Lindquist was Ekstrom’s battery mate the whole game, and did an outstanding job behind the plate.

The hitting star of the game was Tom Floros who went 2-for-2 with two RBI. Sutton, Ryan Pisani and Ekstrom also hit well to help Onex in the victory.
