Multiple Newtown Students Named Among Top Winners In State PTSA Art Program

Connecticut Parent Teacher Student Association hosted its annual “Reflections” reception at Roger Ludlowe Middle School, in Fairfield, Friday, May 7, in recognition of students from across the state who won various awards for their art submissions.

Multiple students from Newtown were awarded prizes during the reception.

Award winners in the Primary Division were Mackenzie Hughes from Hawley School, second place in the visual arts category; Kaitlyn Jones from Middle Gate School, third place in the visual arts category; Seina Harper from Middle Gate School, third place for dance choreography; and Evan Wologodzew from Head O’ Meadow School, third place for music composition.

Serene Aryeh from Middle Gate Elementary School was awarded second place for her music composition in the Intermediate Division, and Brenna Petrelli from Middle Gate School won first place for her literary piece in the Intermediate Division.

Max Galassi from Newtown Middle School was awarded third place for his film/video production in the Middle/Junior Division and Laura Hunter from Newtown High School was awarded second place for her literary piece in the Senior Division.

Presenting the award to Mackenzie, Kaitlyn, Seina, Serene, Evan, Brenna, Max, and Laura was WTNH News Channel 8’s Desiree Fontaine, who also emceed the event.

The Reflections Program offers students the opportunity to create works of art for fun and recognition. Students in preschool through grade 12 were encouraged to create and submit works of art in six areas: dance choreography, film production, literature, musical composition, photography, and the visual arts. The theme for this year’s program was “Beauty Is.”
