Blacksmith Demos

At Gurski Farm Saturday

BROOKFIELD — Brookfield residents Robert Pitcher and Ryan Blessey will be at The Gurski Forge, off Route 133, where they will give a hands-on demonstration of the equipment used in a working blacksmith shop on Saturday, May 22. Both men have had lifelong careers working with metals.

The Brookfield Museum and Historical Society will host the demonstration, as well as several displays of working “one-lung” farm machines from the turn of the last century. In addition, tours of Merwin Brook Cemetery, situated next to the forge, will be given.

The event will run from 10 am to 2 pm. The Gurski Farm property is on the left side of Route 133 heading toward Bridgewater, approximately four-tenths of a mile east of the intersection of Routes 25 and 133 in Brookfield Center.

During the program, the Brookfield Educational Association will be recognized for its contributions to the restoration of blacksmith shop as a way of furthering community educational programs. Collete Sturm, the association’s president, will be on hand for the event.

Admission is free. For more information on this and other upcoming programs of Brookfield Historical Society, visit BrookfieldCTHistory.org.
