All About Irises,

At Next Garden Club Meeting

Michael Zuraw will present a photo filled program, “Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About Iris and more,” to The Garden Club of Newtown on Tuesday, May 25, at 1 pm, in the Olga Knoepke Meeting Room of the Cyrenius H. Booth Library, 25 Main Street.

An avid gardener who began specializing in irises in 1996, Mr Zuraw will give an overview of the vast variety of iris species with a focus on the specific species that grow particularly well in the Northeast and can bloom from February to November. He has been hybridizing irises since 1999 and if the weather and his irises cooperate, Mr Zuraw will bring a selection of cut irises along with him to further enhance his presentation.

A past president of Connecticut Iris Society, Mr Zuraw is Regional Vice President of Region 1 of the American Iris Society, which covers Maine, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, New Hampshire and Vermont, and is also an AIS Garden Judge.  He has a PhD in Chemistry from the University of Wisconsin and has extensive experience with color and imaging science from work at Polaroid and Iris Graphics.

Michael Zuraw’s lecture is open to the public at no charge and registration is not required. Additional information is available, however, by calling 203-270-1108.
