Adopt A Dog

The following dogs are available for adoption from the Newtown pound, which is located at the end of Ethan Allen Road (behind the transfer station):

THEO is a 1-to 2-year-old neutered male pit bull who was found on the side of a snowy road this past winter. Theo, abandoned and frightened, has renewed his great spirit and is looking to be a part of a loving household.

RUSSELL is a 5- to 6-year-old male boxer mix. He seems to have limitless energy and when he’s taken for a walk, he acts like a true gentleman. However, Russell is a very strong dog and will most likely require a strong leader and owner. Russell would not be suitable in a home with cats.

LARRY is a 4-to-5-year-old neutered black lab mix. Larry is full of energy and loves to go for long walks. He does well with some dogs but is very large and excitable, so he may not be appropriate for a household with small children.

WINSTON is a 4-year-old male Jack Russell Terrier mix. He has been evaluated by a trainer who has determined that Winston has been abused. Sadly, he does not react well with strangers and is very defensive. Abandoned by his owner, Winston only trusts a few people. He has made noticeable improvements and many of the volunteers at the pound like to take him for walks. Winston needs an understanding, patient owner with a gentle hand.

If you wish to adopt, please call Newtown Animal Control at 203-426-6900 or Canine Advocates at 203-426-5327.

Canine Advocates of Newtown, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit volunteer group, raises funds to spay/neuter and provide shots against DHLPP and rabies for all of the Newtown Pound cats and dogs. CAN also provides a free training DVD and Beyond Obedience Dog Training offers one free individual training lesson to adopters. Donations may be sent  to Canine Advocates, PO Box 236, Newtown, CT 06470. Visit canineadvocates.org or call 203-426-5327 to volunteer.
