Winterset Ski Club New Officers Installed

Winterset Ski Club members inducted Nicole Anastas as president at the club’s annual dinner dance, held recently at the Stony Hill Inn. Denise Kane is vice president, Judy Loose is secretary, and Peter Giarnantano is treasurer.

The club, now beginning its 34th year, has 240 memberships constituting more than 450 members and has had a very successful year under the guidance of immediate past president Wally Woods.

There are two awards given out each year: The President’s Award goes to the person who has been the biggest help to the president during the year, and The Club Award is presented to the person who has given the most effort to the club during the year. The 2004 President’s  Award was presented to Nicole Anastas and The Club Award to Dana McKinney who handled the very successful newsletter.

Winterset Ski Club was organized on December 7, 1970, as a family club and remains so today. By running day bus trips to Vermont, a family is able to ski at a reasonable group cost without having to drive to and from the ski areas.

Besides the day trips, the club organized a week trip to Lake Louise in Banff, Canada, and long weekend trips to Sugar Loaf in Maine and Sugar Bush in Vermont this season. Week-long trips in previous years included Val Gardena, Italy, Val de Isere, France, and Magod, Canada.

Although skiing is the main theme, there are many social activities held during the year including a picnic in September, a movie and raffle night (for ski passes) in November, a holiday get together in December, a potluck supper in March, a pizza/election night in April, and the dinner-dance in May when the new officers are inducted.

Anyone interested in knowing about Winterset Ski Club is invited to call Wally Wood at 270-8206.
